What is Subcision?
Subcision is a minor surgical procedure used to treat depressed scars, such as acne scars and cellulite. The procedure involves inserting a needle under the skin to break up the fibrous bands that are pulling the scar down, allowing the skin to lift and create a smoother surface.
Pre-Procedure Care:
- Avoid blood-thinning medications (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen) for at least a week prior.
Procedure:
- The treatment area is cleansed and marked.
- A local Anaesthetic is applied to numb the area.
- A needle or special subcision instrument is inserted under the skin.
- The fibrous bands beneath the scar are broken up by moving the needle back and forth.
- The procedure typically takes 30-60 minutes, depending on the size and number of scars.
Post-Procedure Care:
- Apply ice packs to reduce swelling and bruising.
- Avoid strenuous activities for a few days.
- Keep the treatment area clean and dry.
- Follow any additional post-care instructions provided by your practitioner.
- Avoid sun exposure and use a high-SPF sunscreen on the treated area.
Downtime:
- Mild swelling, bruising, and soreness for 3-7 days.
- Most patients can resume normal activities within a few days.
Sessions Needed:
- Typically, 1-3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart are recommended for optimal results.
Areas Treated:
- Face (acne scars)
Benefits:
- Reduces the appearance of depressed scars
- Improves skin texture and smoothness
- Minimally invasive with relatively quick recovery
- Can be combined with other treatments, such as PRF or EZ Gel.
